Archives: Where to Stay

You probably cannot get any closer to the Duomo, 54 steps or a one-minute walk (yes, we counted it). The Straf is also near the Scala and Quadrilatero della Moda (between a three to six minute walk, counted as well!). Design, design, design. If you want a cool contemporary boutique hotel with an ultra-modern clean industrial design feel, this is probably a good choice. The… Read more »

Located in city center, this luxurious contemporary property is one block away from the Duomo and walking distance to most of the city’s attractions, including fashion Quadrilatero della Moda and the business area. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, we had the same great experience at the the Splendid in Venice and the Inghilterra in Rome, all owned by the same group. Rosa Grand… Read more »

A quirky boutique hotel in Navigli, the Yard is recommended for those who want to stay in this bohemian part of town. A short ten-minute drive will take you downtown, where most of the city’s attractions, commerce and financial centers are. The unusual décor includes travel trunks, old boxes, sports trophies in a super stylish atmosphere that seems somehow British and a little hipster as… Read more »

With the Duomo around the corner and very close to most of downtown´s attractions, walking distance to Brera, Quadrilatero and La Scala. We visited the property and were enchanted by its charming designer lobby, with a retro feel and unique décor, giving Room Mate Giulia its own personality. The ambiance is pleasant with furnishings in pastel colors, luxurious sofas, modern carpets, posters and wooden details… Read more »

A top-notch boutique hotel a stone’s throw from the Duomo and the Scala, and 5 min walk to the chic shopping area that the Milanese call Quadrilatero della Moda. Sina The Gray is very stylish with dark floors, white walls, bright curtains, and vivid colors in furnishing like the sofa and an intriguing hanging chair in the lobby (we never saw someone actually sitting on… Read more »

The Il Duca is located on Piazza della Repubblica, midway between the city center, where you will find the Duomo and Milano Centrale. It is an ideal location for guests wanting the convenience of being near the station yet still close enough to the city’s attractions (a ten-minute taxi ride can take you either way). We liked the proximity to Indro Montanelli Gardens (used to… Read more »

In the coolest area of town, Tortona, the Magna Pars has been recently renovated to offer guests greater comfort. Creativity, innovation and design define the building’s architecture, which harmoniously matches the neighborhood´s. You simply cannot get any closer to the old part of town, Colosseum included. The impression you have is that if you open your bedroom windows and stretch out your arms you will touch the Forum. The Nerva is quintessentially boutique: everything in this charming 19-room property is small, cozy and welcoming. Yet, the Nerva is not small when it comes to attention to detail… Read more »

The Naiadi is a grand hotel with all the structure you can expect. A sumptuous classical lobby, with high ceilings and chandeliers, large Reception and Concierge desks, often helping the many guests. There is an upscale restaurant (the popular Eataly is next door also) and two others, a swimming pool upstairs (a lovely rare find in Rome) and a delightful bar under the beautiful arcade… Read more »

A magnificent property set in an aristocratic mansion that was home to a prominent family in days past, and has been gloriously converted into a luxurious boutique hotel. We particularly loved the swimming pool, which you can seldom find in historical Rome, and is just perfect for a tranquil respite during the day and in between attractions or an early swim just before your business… Read more »

Located only blocks away from busy shopping streets like Corso or Condotti, busy piazzas Spagna and del Popolo, and we loved the fact that it is just away enough to enjoy some quietness whilst still being close to the sights. Located in elegant Via Margutta, this luxury boutique hotel was recently opened and feels brand new, with its stylish décor of light wood and mosaic… Read more »

On our latest stay we were quite pleased with this property, very well located on a quiet area only blocks away from busy Piazza di Spagna, a convenient proximity yet safe kept from the noise. Vias dei Condotti, del Corso and the upscale shopping district, as well as stunning Villa Borghese, were all within a five-minute walk. Actually, we had the same great experience at the… Read more »

We usually avoid hotel chains (decidedly impersonal), but this one is the crown jewel of the Meliá group, officially called Gran Meliá Rome. Located blocks away from the Vatican, Sistine Chapel and Castel Sant’Angelo, Villa Agrippina is an authentic Italian villa, an urban oasis with beautiful landscaping and a great swimming pool, perfect to cool down during peak sun hours and in between strolls around… Read more »

The term hotel does not do this property justice, as it is more of an exclusive townhouse with hotel services. And certainly not a regular townhouse, at that. Luxurious design, impeccable style, authentic vintage furniture and modern sophistication are naturally commonplace in this tiny 8-room boutique property. The location is excellent, on a small quiet street just off via Giulia and walking distance to the… Read more »

We find this hotel to be one of the most charming options for a stay in Geneva, and, in fact, it has become a top rated choice in our preferred list. Les Armures is ideally located within blocks from Lake Geneva and River Rhône, as well as the elegant shopping area in town. It is at the heart of Vieille Ville (Old Town), which brings… Read more »

A stay at lakeside Hotel Beau Rivage will be full of grandeur.
