Oia, the most popular area of Santorini, is packed with day tourists, which can be a little overwhelming in high season. We recommend you go down to one of the most magical and tranquil spots in the island: Ammoudi. You can reach this hidden gem by car, quadricycle or scooter. Enjoy the views as you make your way there and park anywhere at the end of the small road. Start the five minute descend and go straight to the edge of a small pier to the right, where you can enjoy spectacular views of the bay and earthy red cliffs. Walk to the other end and hike the small trail to the rocks, over which you’ll spot sunbathers, with beach towels and tiny parasols, occasionally diving into the sea. Appreciate the colors of the water and the small fishing boats. Plan your visit around a meal time as there are several lovely small taverns serving fresh seafood. We loved our dining experience at Sunset restaurant. Climb back up to the island and tell no one. Ammoudi must remain a well-kept secret.
