The Portuguese culinary experience will likely surprise even the most discerning traveler. Often overlooked in favor of more famous cuisines, like the French or Italian, we go as far as to suggest that Portugal is one of the best places to eat in Europe. And Porto has benefited from the gastronomic effervescence the country has seen in recent years. Do take advantage of delicious local dishes, like salted cod prepared and served in so many different ways, as well as the Francesinha sandwich or the typical pastries and desserts, Toucinho do Céu being the most famous one. However, do not miss the excellent international food on offer, as well as some trendy restaurants led by acclaimed chefs who have reinvented some traditional recipes to produce classic dishes with a modern twist.
