Archiginnasio

The whole Archiginnasio is unmissable, and given that it is located just 5 minutes walking off Piazza Maggiore we often wonder how someone would not take the time to visit this jewel. As you enter the building you will be amazed by the ceilings and inner courtyard, with an outstanding amount of coats of arms and other references to some of the University’s students, which had in the Archiginnasio its Law and Medicine campuses. The two highlights, though, are: the Teatro Anatomico all in wood from floor to ceiling and a theater style set up, where anatomy and dissection classes used to take place, as well as its stunning library with 35 thousand books in an endless corridor of wooden shelves and marble floors (attention not to miss the library, which you can actually only see from a pretty large room and through an iron cast small door).
