Kronenhalle

An institution in town, Kronenhalle is cherished by locals and praised as one of the greatest restaurants for Swiss food in the country. As you enter, you almost feel you as though you are at a top notch art gallery or small museum, as wooden paneled walls are filled with original paintings by Chagall, Picasso, Miró, Klee and so on. The venue used to be a horse and carriages house for an old hotel called La Couronne, once frequented by Zurich´s high society. During the war, the owners were very kind to artists who later became friends and sold them some art pieces. The main room is striking, for not only the paintings, but the classical chandeliers, wooden panels and teak ceilings. There is a gorgeous small bar in the annex, where you will find more paintings, and another room fully dedicated to Chagall. The food itself was not disappointing at all: veal with rösti, some polenta with vegetables, sausages with grilled onions und so weiter! The staff is very kind, approachable and proud of the building’s history, so take the opportunity to ask questions, walk around and appreciate the works of art.

Rämistrasse 4, Zürich.
