It is not very easy to find good eateries around the epicenter of the touristic zone, but O Bacalhau was a very good choice for a meal in Ribeira, overlooking River Douro. The menu is quite concise, there are not many options on the list and we actually expected to see a greater variety of cod dishes on offer, given the restaurants name, Bacalhau, cod in Portuguese. But, everything we ordered was actually very good: deep-fried cod with vegetable rice and cod over potatoes, followed by juicy pineapple with ice cream. There are other Portuguese options available, like the typical açorda, or veal and even some seafood, as well as traditional canned sardines as a starter. If the weather is good request to be seated outside by the wall, but otherwise the modern yet comfortable interiors are equally pleasant.
