One of the best restaurants in town, the DOP is the second restaurant by Porto native Rui Paula, another chef who has become kind of a celebrity in the country. Located in the old part of town, it is the perfect combination of a great dining experience followed by a stroll along the lively surrounding streets. The classical building itself has historical references and has been renovated into a trendy and comfortable minimalist space. But what about the food? Refined, delicious and worth the popularity. There are two menus to choose from, one based on fish and seafood and another on meat. Octopus ceviche to start with, oxtail and shrimp pasta and a refined chocolate dessert made the evening! Do bear in mind that DOP’s tasting menus are set for a long and unhurried dinner. If you go up the Douro River to the valley, and we highly recommend you do, Rui Paula has the most acclaimed restaurant in the region, called DOC, on a deck over the Douro with great views. Do not miss either one!
