Hotel Florhof is a lovely property situated in Oberdorf, ideal if you want a quiet stay away from the busy streets of Niederdorf, yet within walking distance to Limmat river (it took us six minutes), along which sit all major attractions. We were delighted with the building’s history, previously an aristocratic mansion owned by a wealthy merchant in the silk business, as well as the neighboring music conservatorium and nearby Kunsthaus. The hotel has been attentively run by families for some time now and you can feel its charms right at entrance with its tiled floors, wooden columns and a magnificent antique blue and white tiled stove. A small internal patio with a fountain adds to the relaxing ambiance. There is an in-house restaurant (most rates include breakfast), but charming cafés and shops are only three minutes away at Neumarkt Street. The hotel staff is extremely attentive and helpful. Rooms in general are good in size, but skip the “mini” one since it really is mini. Try the “maxi” rooms (22m2) or one of the suites, if possible, as they are more comfortable and have parquet floors, excellent linen and elegant décorin pale tones of red, blue and beige, as well as larger bathrooms. One important thing to mention is that some rooms have no air conditioning, so if this is an important feature do enquire ahead of booking (our last visit was at the peak of summer and we never felt the need to have air conditioning, but this is a personal preference).
