Vila Joya

This is one of the few two-Michelin star restaurants in Portugal, hence manage your expectations regarding dining costs. Although, dining at Vila Joya is not simply a meal, but a complete experience. The Austrian Chef more than delivers with outstanding dish after dish, over a long evening that begins with the enchanting setting. Upon entering the property of the same name, you shall be greeted with a beautiful room and a spacious Mediterranean style terrace with Moorish detailing and fabulous sea views. If you have time, enjoy a pre-dinner drink at the bar next to the main room. Surrounded by gardens and the breathtaking ocean, the sunset from this perspective is particularly beautiful. The dinner, composed of many courses, starts with a few surprises offered by the Chef in the way of servings of amuse-bouches that almost satisfy one’s appetite before the main course. The tasting menu varies according to season and locally sourced ingredients, and we were served beautifully presented and incredibly delicious elaborate dishes. Fish on a cucumber foam, foie gras with peach spheres, carabinero shrimp on avocado paste, ceviche inspired raw fish, amidst other dishes. The crunchy raspberry desert was amazing. By the time we finished our last course, we were truly delighted with our meal. The evening lasted around three hours, but it was indeed a memorable experience that included all the formal dish introductions by the waiters and an exchange of impressions amongst diners about what was being served. If you intend to try a two Michelin star restaurant, this will certainly be a great option. It comes without saying that it is expensive, but less exorbitant than similar restaurants in cities like London or Paris.
