Uni

With one of the most creative Asian menus we have come across, it is no wonder UNI attracts a faithful clientele of local regulars and is always busy. Also unsurprising are the recent accolades awarded to the chef responsible for this izakaya (a sort of Japanese tapas bar). If you are unable to book a table ahead of time, do not fret, show up and ask to sit at the sushi bar, where you can see the raw delicacies being prepared, or at the drinks bar, where dishes are also served. Diners delight on hot and cold dishes, as well as sashimis e nigiris (that have an entire menu page) and of course the extensive array of sushi on offer. We found the Hot Plates section to be the most creative, so much so it was hard to pick amidst the sheer abundance of amazingly tempting options! The fried rice with shrimp and teriyaki sauce was incredible, as was the crunchy and mildly spicy cauliflower and the oxtail cakes accompanied by a Korean kimchi paste. You get the impression that the vast diversity of choices serve to entice the clientele back, as we were also tempted by the mussels cooked on sake, the wagyu meat dumplings, the crab tempuras with basil and avocado sauce, the duck with shrimp and green papaya sauce… a delight for your taste buds. To complete the exquisite experience, the ambiance is lovely, modern and trendy. Don’t think twice and show up hungry.
