Roue D’Or
This old fashioned restaurant is a classic in town and has been around for a while. The traditional décor has rich detailing on ceilings, wall paintings, crystal chandeliers and wooden benches with the names of prominent former clients inscribed. We were told more than once to try the food there, considered to be excellent and one of the reasons the restaurant has been around for such a long time. We were actually surprised to eat so well at a restaurant near the Grand Place, which is usually full of tourist traps. Our goal was to savor an outstanding Moules and Frites serving on our trip to Brussels, yet we were really delighted with everything we ate. We started with a breaded camembert cheese served with honey and a side salad with nuts, followed by the best Moules and Frites we had in town. There are many serving options and we opted for Moules and Frites with cream and wine sauce, which was amazingly good. The excellent experience made us head back to this restaurant before leaving town for an encore of the breaded camembert and the Moules and Frites. This time we also tried the shrimp croquettes (nothing to write home about) and a grilled sole served typically “a la meunière”, with butter and capers, which was really good.
