Dandoy

You shall come across outlets serving the typical Belgium waffles in practically every corner of Brussels. We recommend you skip the touristic shops around Manneken Pis, however, and make it worth every calorie by having proper waffles, or gaufers as they are called in Belgium, at the Dandoy. There is more than one branch in town, we had ours at the elegant Galeries, amidst many chocolatiers and specialty shops. We were delighted with fluffy dough, served straight from the buttered griddle, with home made chocolate, sugar and berries, simply delicious! Some say the Dandoy serves the best waffles in Belgium, but this specialty confectionary that “runs on sugar”, as they say themselves, has a lot more to offer. It is a lovely place for a cup of coffee or tea accompanied by fabulous pastries, biscuits, marzipans and/or cakes. We were told their traditional brown sugar biscuit recipe has been passed down for generations of the owners’ family. So take your pick and have some sweet fun at Dandoy!
