Osteria alle Testieri

Osteria alle Testieri is in almost all experts’ lists when they talk about Venice, but do not expect a starred restaurant with in vogue spheres and foams. This osteria has been operating for decades and has a traditional bias in its offerings. The menu depends on the day since the Testieri cooks whatever comes fresh from the markets. In general you can find different kinds of fishes and seafood, served with pastas and vegetables for side orders. We had some pasta filled with prawns that were particularly delicious, preceded by grilled scallops in a mild sauce. If you go for fish ask for the catches of the day and choose fillets instead of the whole versions, as ours got a little messy, and do try the typical Venetian Graseola if available (served in its own shell, delicious!). The tiramisu for dessert was probably the best we had in Venice. It is located just north of Saint Mark’s square, a bit hidden, and they take only two dozens gourmands at a time, so book in advance!
