Mercato Centrale

This busy Roman market is frequented by many locals who work in the region and are looking for a nice meal, as well as a few travelers willing to enjoy some typical Italian delicacies. There are many modern food stalls in this renovated market, where you help yourself and enjoy your meal at communal tables. Pastas, cheese and salami boards, pizzas, fish and meat dishes, burgers and even a sushi place can be found at this food hall. Do not miss the corner fully dedicated to artichokes and try the famous “alla giudia”, a typical Roman way of eating carciofi. Everything else we tried in the many visits was equally satisfying, from the arancini to the barbecued meat. The building where the market is located adjoins the Roma Termini, so if you happen to be heading to this train station, plan accordingly. If not, it is worth the visit anyway. There is a restaurant upstairs as well, but we think the first floor is actually more fun!
