Le Stanze

The former mansion of the traditional Bentivolglio family is now one of the most beautiful bars in Italy, or maybe in the world (and this is no exaggeration). Located in the propertys old chapel, Le Stanze has afrescoes in walls and ceiling, all of them original, a jaw dropping view as soon as you enter its rooms. Other rooms also carry original works of Italian masters, but the highlight is really the old chapel. Drinks and cocktails are excellent, the wine list is not very extensive but we tried some very good red wine. Skip the aperitivo buffet, which was nothing special and not worth the calories, and focus on drinks or some of the snacks on offer, like cheese and prosciutto boards, eggplant parmegiana, crepes, etc. Another good option is to have a proper dinner at one of its side rooms, even though our recommendation is that you have pre-dinner cocktails only. A good idea is to head to Il Piatto Rotto, only three blocks away and for a wonderful meal after cocktails. Staff at Le Stanze could be friendlier but it is a minor oversight in face of the bar’s beauty.
