Renowned in Santorini, the Kastro restaurant is located in Oia’s edge, very close to the old castle ruins. Strategically placed for sunset views amidst the little white houses, colorful bougainvillea and round rooftops, this venue is on demand, so book ahead. The food is plain and simply good, no masterfully creative touches or intricate elaborations. We kept it simple as well and ordered salads, grilled fish and a honey and fruit dessert. It was a pleasant light collection of appealing Mediterranean flavors, leaving plenty of room for the enjoyment of the grand attraction as the sun began to set. It goes without saying that outdoor seating is essential for your full appreciation of the sunset and views. Around you there will be several others, lost in the amazement at experiencing the sky slowly transforming from yellow to pink, until it is deep blue and covered in stars.
