Caminetto D’Oro

Please keep the secret: this is a small restaurant tucked away in a tiny street, yet Caminetto D’Oro holds what is consider to be one of the best pastas in town (bear in mind that in Bologna the standard of comparisons is extremely high). You need to ring the bell for access to the three very small rooms holding little tables in a charming ambience. We were greeted with a delicious mortadella mousse, homage to the local world-renowned delicacy. We followed with the famous tagliatelle with meat ragu, the famous pasta that some countries call “Bolognese”, a typical and perfect tortellini di manzo in brodo, followed by artichokes with poached eggs on toasted bread and truffles. A table next to us had lamb with onions and tomatoes that made us look at our diaries to check when we could return. The night finished with an exquisite miglefoglie with ricotta and chocolate crumbles. It was our first dinner in town, which made us wonder if it was possible to expect a better experience. Next door is Twinside, the bistro of the same owner and a more modern ambience and different menu, but we heard the food is equally delicious.

Via de Falegnami 4, Bologna.
