Ambrosia

Ambrosia is one of the best restaurants in Santorini. Its name, known in Greek mythology as food of the gods, is not a complete exaggeration, as the food is indeed divine. Yet, Ambrosia’s experience goes beyond gastronomy. Located on a cliff top in Oia, with mesmerizing views of the caldera, it is worth the effort to reserve one of the very few outdoor tables on the balcony, so book well in advance. When the day comes, try to get there towards the end of the afternoon, when the sun begins to set, the sky turns pink and the moon starts to rise. Now, let us whet your appetite. There is no need to order seafood, as the menu has plenty of excellent choices on offer. We started with a delicious salad of green leaves, figs, feta cheese and almonds, perfectly balanced in both flavor and crunchiness. The salmon that followed was also very good, served with a sour cream and lemon sauce. After having practically overdosed on squid and octopus during this long stay in Greece, we decided to order a meat dish. Cooked to perfection, our steak was served with truffle sauce and an excellent risotto. We also ordered lamb as a main dish, which was served with a lovely couscous. We heard the shrimp and avocado is unmissable, so we shall order this on our next Santorini visit. For dessert, the local delicacy baklava was served with ice cream and a red berry coulis, simply marvelous. This almost mythological dining experience was worth every penny, unmissable food for the gods, indeed.
