If you are looking to stay in the bohemian Monti Rione neighborhood, the Luxus is probably the best hotel option in the region. The neighborhood is getting trendier by the day, probably due to its ability to maintain the local Italian authenticity of a residential area yet still be somewhat close to the city’s attractions: a 15-minute walk will take you to the Coliseum, Fontana di Trevi or to Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore. The contemporary Luxus is set within a recently renovated monastery-building annex adjacent to a small church. The décor is modern with artsy touches and a fashionable style. The luxuriously decorated rooms include good size options for European standards, as well as suites with jacuzzies and family rooms. Please note that some rooms on the top floor have low ceilings. The hotel offers a tiny spa, which can be booked for your private use, and the in vogue restaurant Madre, that attracts non-guests as well. The staff is one of the friendliest we encountered in town.
