Palacio Ramalhete
Not only a remarkable property, but also an authentic part of history. The estate was owned by an aristocratic family who hosted many members of the European nobility (including the Duke of Windsor), and is mentioned in Eça de Queirós book “The Maias”, one of the most important classics of Portuguese literature. The 18th century grandeur made way to a very small hotel in the Janelas Verdes area. With only 16 rooms, each with a different setting, plan and unique style, there are curious choices such as a bedroom in place of a kitchen, and another in an attic, but both are very charming and comfortable. Original Portuguese white and blue tiles, hardwood floors, oak panels, ornate ceilings, fireplaces and beautiful antique furniture are to be seen throughout the property, honoring the rich tradition of the building. We particularly liked the remarkable staircase. The terraces, courtyards and pool give way to breathtaking views, which completes the scene. The very friendly staff are most hospitable and aim to ensure you feel welcome and have a comfortable stay. It is located on the edge of the city center, which could be quite convenient for more a more relaxing and quiet stay, yet still only a short fifteen-minute walk to Mercado da Ribeira and Cais do Sodré.
