Life’s a beach
There are many beaches around Lisbon, and summers are hot, so you might want to enjoy a relaxing day in the sun, if weather allows. The beaches we suggest are within thirty minutes from Lisbon, and will provide a convenient respite in between days walking around town and visiting the sights. Carcavelos is closest to Lisbon and very popular, so we recommend you skip it, as we personally did not like the vibe, style or crowd. Larger options, a little further away, are Caparica and Guincho (a lot of waves) beaches. They are also quite popular but as they are large beaches you should find a spot in the sunshine even on crowded days. Our preferred seaside spot is Adraga, a gem tucked away amidst cliffs and an alluring, and usually quieter, sea. The very simple restaurants in the clifftop area serve very good seafood. However, if you want to know some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, extend your stay and spend a few days in the Algarve, three hours from Lisbon, with an incredible sea and some beautiful beaches.
