Trattoria Al Moro

A true old school trattoria where tradition and a faithful clientele are the pillars. The ambience is as old style as possible and they offer an extensive menu. Many antipasti, typical meat dishes including trippe a la romana (for the brave), fish and seafood with pasta or by itself. If you are looking for a trendy cool Italian venue, this is not the place, but if you are looking for a delicious traditional Italian meal, get a table at Al Moro. Melanzane alla parmigiana was the best we ever had (competing with one at a restaurant in St Barths), and braseola and parmigiano were the choices for perfect starters. We followed with pastas, one of them with burro and funghi, the other one in creamy tartufo bianco. Perfect is the only word to describe them. Spaghetti al Moro is the equivalent to carbonara, the pièce de résistance and considered one of the best in town. We overheard a conversation in which a young man said it was the best he had had in his whole life, yet we think he has a few more years to go before reaching a definitive conclusion. For desserts we skipped the wild strawberry tart, and went for semifreddo zambaione, also served with chocolate sauce. The table next to us had some profiteroles, which admittedly looked very tempting!
