Da Enzo
The line outside is generally a good indication of what is to come. The ambiance is relaxed, the décor frugal with a few tables covered in checkered tablecloths and cloth napkins, and there is no wine list, as they only serve the house wine selection. Yet, the food is probably one of the best in Trastevere. It is located in the less touristic part of the neighborhood, right across Viale di Trastevere. We were in a large group so there was a chance to try a bit of everything. Fiori di zucca and burrata for starters, excellent. Main courses polpette, Cacio e Pepe, pasta with guanciale and the highlight of the night: oxtail (cooked for hours in wine). Tiramisu was one of the best we ever had, although the recipe appeared to steer away from tradition and included some Nutella (we did not complain), and fragole with cream, which is probably seasonal since the small fragole are not always available. Outstanding food at very low prices, actually. They do not take reservations, we recommend you go early or 40 minutes before closing, but please note that last seating can depend a bit on the owner’s mood.
