Antiche Carampane
Probably one of your best meals in Venice would be at the Antiche Carampane, specialized in seafood, for which the city is famous, but with a modern twist. It is not exactly a fancy or fashionable restaurant, but rather a relaxed and lively family run setting that has become famous for its excellent quality of food. The menu changes regularly, given that they focus on serving fresh food and catches of the day. Our feast started with fritto misto and scampi salad with figs, continued with grilled scallops and fish with vegetables and octopus. It was a delight! The restaurant is not touristic at all and an oasis also enjoyed by Venetians. If you have the time, it is quite interesting to learn about the history of the area where the trattoria is today, a region once controlled by brothel entrepreneurs who amusingly chose names like Street or Bridge of Tits and so on. Word of mouth has spread, so be prepared and book well in advance, as this venue is sought after and quite small. It is really hidden around the Rialto, so pay special attention when finding your way.
