Alcoa
This pastry shop is originally from a city named Alcobaça and we always wondered why such marvelous delicacies were not sold in any shops in Lisbon, the country’s busiest city. Only recently they opened a shop in Portugal’s capital in one of its hippest areas, the Chiado. The small venue has many of the typical sweets Portugal is well known for, specially the traditional ones made of egg yolks and an enormous amount of sugar, but other options made of chocolate and other ingredients are also available. Even though they sell the famous Pasteis de Natas, we recommend you try those at Pastel de Belem near Mosterio dos Jeronimos, which we consider to be the very best. Save your calorie expenditure at Alcoa to the prize winning Coroas de Abadessa , the superb Segredos de D. Pedro or the magnificent Castanhas de Ovos. The flourless chocolate cake is good, but a bit dry and very different from the ones you find elsewhere. If chocolate is your thing than try the amazing cake at Landeau in LX Factory. Alcoa is near many of the city’s attractions, you will certainly pass by it someday, so give it a try!
