Al Gazzetino

This delightful little gem, tucked away in a small alley, is quite difficult to find, but the lines at the front give away not only its location but the assurance that good food is being prepared there. To appease your appetite while you wait outside for your table, waiters bring out to the alley pans with small dishes containing typical starters like gnocchi or a spoonful of tagliolini. After you are seated, enjoy looking over the hearty menu, with many different pastas and meats on offer. We felt inclined to try seafood and fish, which is considered to be good in Venice, and were not disappointed. A shrimp, fish and mussels bowl came to our table steaming through the room and we followed with delicious pasta filled with mushrooms. We did not want any dessert but they insisted on us having a chocolate cake with orange and some port on the house, so we politely obliged. The Gazzettino is a laid back family run trattoria with good food and a fun staff! Its location is quite convenient as well, in the middle of the way between Piazza San Marco and the Rialto.
