Palazzo Dama

A magnificent property set in an aristocratic mansion that was home to a prominent family in days past, and has been gloriously converted into a luxurious boutique hotel. We particularly loved the swimming pool, which you can seldom find in historical Rome, and is just perfect for a tranquil respite during the day and in between attractions or an early swim just before your business meetings. Piazza del Popolo is basically on the corner, Piazza di Spagna and the shopping district (take a moment to admire the distinctively fabulous Italian fashion style) are a ten-minute walk. The hotel has a sophisticated décor, with lots of marble and a stylish mixture of antique and modern furnishings. We found the Hotel Bar one of the highlights, with its swanky black and gold walls, design furniture and upholstery, and crystal chandeliers that came straight from The Plaza in New York. The restaurant is stylish and just perfect for the delicious breakfast and other meals. Rooms are in keeping with the well-designed common rooms and have a striking décor with discrete touches of gold throughout, design lampshades, large beds with beautiful headboards, design chairs and high quality linens and upholstery. We loved that some of the bathrooms have painted rather than tiled walls and the modern white ceramic sinks and toilets are lovely, as are the mirrors. Standard rooms are a little tight with 20m2, so perhaps try some of the larger ones if more space is needed. The suites are incredible, yet we found the Executive not to be worth the upgrade, the living room is very large but not the bedroom. If you really want to pamper yourself, spend a little extra and go for the Royal Suite, absolutely amazing, a truly royal stay. The staff is one of the most attentive we met in Rome. If you stay at the Dama don’t miss dinner at Dal Bolognese, a 5 min walk and some of the best food in town.
